The New Jersey School Boards Association, a federation of boards of education, provides training, advocacy and support to advance public education and the achievement of all students through effective governance.

The Association is governed by its Delegate Assembly. Every board has a vote in the Delegate Assembly—one board, one vote. Each local school board selects a delegate and an alternate.

The Delegate Assembly meets twice a year in the months of May/June and November/December to determine the Association's positions on educational issues, and to set the by-laws under which it operates.

At the Delegate Assembly, delegates vote on resolutions submitted by local boards, county school board associations, the NJSBA Board of Directors and standing committees. Resolutions approved at the Delegate Assembly become Association policy. Delegates also act on recommendations of ad hoc committees appointed to study specific issues.

In addition, the delegates also elect Association officers every two years. The officers consist of the President, the Vice President for County Activities, the Vice President for Finance and the Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions. The Immediate Past President is also an Association officer.

Ensuring that the policies of the Association as enacted by the Delegate Assembly are carried out is the mission of the NJSBA Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors consists of the Association officers, a representative elected from each of the 21 county school board associations, three delegates from the Urban Boards Committee, one delegate from a vocational board and a delegate representing the County Association Leadership. The Board of Directors oversees Association affairs, adopts its budget, reviews its governance and operations policies and programs and appoints the Executive Director.
